Learned about the grip strength correlation to longevity a few years ago, and started doing pullups with a weighted vest on, which is what I am about to go do.

Also, Ive read that our ancestors walked while carrying heavy loads constantly, which explains the stronger arms.

There are a lot of people today who simulate this with rucking. Hiking with a weighted pack or vest. You get cardio and strength training at the same time, and its easier on the joints than running.

However, I imagine its better for the arms to physically carry something in them, rather than strap it on. Michael Easter is the rucking guru, and hes on Substack.

Yes! I'm a fan of rucking. Thank you for mentioning the weighted vest (and Michael Easter). I've used my backpack with weights, which isn't great as far as the weight distribution. PS - Because of one of your comments, I listened to Tribe this weekend. So good.....packed full of amazing research, stories and pearls....and life changing. Thank you.

Glad you enjoyed it! It had quite an impact on me, plus I got in touch with Sebastian and he encouraged me to write. It took a few years, but it eventually happened.

Backpack with weights is better than nothing!

A dear friend has osteoporosis, and the doctor told her to ruck. Ive been trying to get her to do it too, with no success. Have read that a lot of women are lifting weights to prevent osteoporosis these days.

Good for you for getting in touch with Sebastian. I should have mentioned osteoporosis in the post. Prevention was a motivator for me. I love to walk and hike, but realized it wasn't weight-bearing enough.
