Hello, I was living in a rental home for 3 years, started getting sinus infections repeatedly and was sick all the time, husband had to have sinus surgery, I also got shingles 4 times while living there and haven’t had it since. Come to find out there was high levels of mold throughout the home. I’m 33 now but this was 4 years ago, I’m still today dealing with some of the Candida issues, any advice?

Hi Kayla. Exposure to mold can cause mold toxicity (which can stay in the body even after leaving the environment) and mold colonization in the sinuses or GI tract (creating a source of toxicity itself). For mold toxins testing (in the body), we use the Realtime test, which can be ordered without a doctor's order. I have a newsletter on reasons for persistent candida - one of the reasons is mold toxicity. Here's a link to that: https://courtneysnydermd.substack.com/p/10-barriers-to-healing-from-candida

This is important to consider. There are many vectors and this is one.

How is this treated is the big question.

We test using urine mycotoxin testing and then use specific binders to bind the toxins that show up in the toxic range. Addressing the environment is also necessary. This binding process takes time, but typically as the toxins are moving out we see symptoms improve. Once on binders, some people also need antifungals. Thank you for asking about this.

Thank you for your response! I have a family member going through some pretty rough psychological symptoms and have been researching for hours every day to find ways to support him. He will not see a doc so I’m trying to find solutions to get him stabilized and maybe ready for that step. I’ll have to do more research on mold and see if I can see any commonalities and more generalized approaches for mitigation at least. If you have recommendations, I welcome them!
